78%, and remarkably evenly distributed — no category strayed far from the others. The Union Station Hotel is a converted 1900 railway terminal, and the architecture is the headline act. The rooms are pleasant guests in someone else's masterpiece.
Union Station Nashville, Room 515: History, with a Regrettable Desk
The Bed: Solid Across the Board
Linens, mattress and pillows each returned four out of five — no weak link, no standout. A perfectly good bed that neither delighted nor disappointed, which for a historic conversion is a better result than it sounds.
The Room: Character, Not Convenience
Room style and layout were the strengths at 100% and 100% respectively — unsurprising in a building with this much original detail to work with. Cleanliness, HVAC and outlets all held at 80%.
The workspace, however, scored 40%, the lowest mark of the stay. Be warned; the "desk" is tiny. The view managed 60% and noise the same. This is the standing trade-off of the heritage conversion: you get vaulted ceilings and stonework, and in exchange you get a desk that was clearly an afterthought and windows that were never designed to keep out a city.
The Bathroom: Uniformly Fine
Cleanliness, water pressure, water temperature and towels all came in at 80% — a genuinely consistent performance — with only the amenities trailing at 60%. Nothing here to complain about and nothing to write home about, which in a bathroom is close to the ideal outcome.
The Hotel: The Lobby Is the Reason You Came
At 80%, the joint-highest category of the stay. The lobby scored a perfect 100%, and anyone who has stood under that barrel-vaulted ceiling will consider the mark conservative. The location also took 100%.
Wi-Fi, restaurants, service and style each held at 80%. The fitness centre and business facilities both managed 60%, which feels like the correct set of priorities for a hotel whose main attraction is standing still and looking up. Be sure to check out Nashville yards and the abundance of pickleball courts and activities just outside of the hotel.
