The Bed: Strong, With One Soft Spot

Linens and mattress both perfect; the pillows settled for 80%. A comfortable, well-made bed that asked nothing of its occupant, and the highest-scoring category of the stay by some distance.

The Room: Stylish and Well Laid Out, Then That Minibar

The good first: room style and layout each scored a perfect 100%, and this is a genuinely handsome room — the kind of interior that photographs better than it needs to. Cleanliness, view, workspace, HVAC, outlets and noise all held at 80%, a respectable and unusually consistent showing.

Then the minibar, at 20%. Not underwhelming, not overpriced — effectively absent. Room service fared better at 60%, though not by enough to compensate. There is something quietly comic about a room this well dressed being unable to produce a bottle of water.

The Bathroom: Adequate, Occasionally Bracing

72%, the weakest bathroom among the Sofitel properties here. Cleanliness, towels and amenities were fine at 80%. Water pressure and water temperature both came in at 60%, which is a polite way of saying the shower was a negotiation. In a hotel charging for polish, the plumbing should not be the thing you brace for.

The Hotel: A Superb Address Doing a Lot of Work

The location scored a perfect 100%, and it is the property's strongest asset by far — this is a very good corner of Washington to wake up in. The lobby, restaurants and overall style each managed 80%.

Below that: Wi-Fi at 60%, fitness at 60%, business facilities at 60%, and service at 40%. The recurring pattern across this stay is a hotel that has invested heavily in how things look and rather less in how they run. Room 1214 was lovely. It simply needed someone to answer the phone.
