Room 523 delivered a stylish and enjoyable stay with several strong points, especially in design, layout, and sleep quality. At its best, 21c St. Louis feels clever, curated, and confidently different. At its weaker moments, it feels like a hotel that knows it is interesting and occasionally forgets that guests also enjoy convenience. Even so, with a StayIQ score of 4 out of 5, this was a good stay with enough character to make the minor flaws feel more like quirks than dealbreakers.
Show Me a Suite!
For the guest in Room 523, the bed mostly understood the assignment. The linens and mattress were solid and comfortable, but the pillows were the clear overachievers, earning top marks and likely doing most of the heavy lifting when it came to a good night’s sleep. This was a bed that did not quite demand poetry, but it definitely deserved a respectful nod.
The room itself made an excellent first impression. Its layout was sharp, its style was full of personality, and it looked polished without feeling stiff. The view, HVAC, outlets, and noise level all performed well, creating a stay that felt easy and functional. The workspace, however, was less executive suite and more polite suggestion, so those planning to conquer a long email backlog may have needed a little extra patience.
The bathroom was dependable across the board. Cleanliness, water pressure, water temperature, and towels all landed in the good-to-very-good range, which made the space feel perfectly serviceable. The amenities, though, were less memorable. Nothing was offensive, but nothing exactly whispered luxury either. It got the job done, just without much flair.
21c St. Louis clearly knows how to make an entrance. The lobby and overall style were standout features, giving the hotel its signature sense of drama and design. The fitness offering also impressed, which is always a pleasant surprise in a hotel that could have easily coasted on looks alone. Still, the rest of the experience was more uneven. WiFi, dining, business features, service, and location were all merely adequate, as though the hotel was relying a bit too heavily on its charm and expecting everyone else to keep up.
